He hath Fulfilled His Word

Lamentations 2:17, “The LORD hath done that which he had devised; he hath fulfilled his word that he had commanded in the days of old: he hath thrown down, and hath not pitied: and he hath caused thine enemy to rejoice over thee, he hath set up the horn of thine adversaries.”

In this passage, Jeremiah confirms that the Lord had done that which He said He would do. There are many promises from God throughout the Bible, and God will keep everyone of them. He has given promises that sound positive like, “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee,”(Hebrews 13:5) and “He careth for you.” (I Peter 5:7) He has also given promises that have a negative sound to it (though the end result it positive) such as, “Be sure your sin will find you out.” (Numbers 32:23)

No matter what the promise is, God does keep it. If one were to ask the average Christian if they believe that God keeps His promises, of course the answer would be yes. However, if we look at the actions of the average Christian, their actions would not say they believe that God will keep His promises. Some will sin because they think “no one” is watching even though Proverbs 15:3 says, “The eyes of the Lord are in every place beholding the evil and the good.” Others will panic, skip church, and not tithe knowing that Philippians 4:19 reads, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

My prayer is that I would not only say with my mouth that I believe that God will keep His promises, but that I would also say it with my actions knowing that “All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
