The Lord’s Mercies

Lamentations 3:22-23a, “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning:”

I believe many times in the business of life that we can forgot truly how merciful God has been to us. As sinners, we deserve nothing more than to die and spend eternity in Hell, but God was merciful to us. He sent Jesus to die and to pay for our sins.

Not only does he give us the opportunity to have a home in Heaven, but he also gives us enough mercy to allow us to live. Oftentimes, we take for granted the act of waking up and going through our day. It is only because of the mercies of God that we are able to do so. Even when we mess up, God allows us to continue to live our lives here on Earth.

“It is of the Lord’s mercies” that He does not just wipe humans off the face of the planet. As I watch and read the news, it is very evident how wicked the world is in which we live. It has been said that if God doesn’t send great judgment upon America for their sin, he would have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah, two of the most wicked cities in all of the Bible. Perhaps God is giving America a chance. God would not have destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah if there were 10 righteous people, and Scripture indicates that Lot had 10 people in his family. Maybe the reason America is not destroyed is that there are enough righteous people for God to spare her. Let us not test God’s mercies. Let us never forget, take for granted, or take advantage of the mercies that God shows us each and every day.
