To Save a Life

Ezekiel 3:18, “When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand”

In this passage, God is speaking to Ezekiel. God is telling Ezekiel that he is a watchman for the nation of Israel. A watchman was in charge of keeping watch over a city. If an enemy came, he was responsible for warning the people. If he did not warn the people, their death would be required at the watchman’s hand. However, if he warned the people and they didn’t listen, the watchman’s hands were clean. Ezekiel was responsible for telling the nation of Israel God’s words that he spoke to Ezekiel in order to save a life..

Like Ezekiel, Christians are watchman. We are responsible for telling lost people about the punishment for their sin. We must tell them of Christ in order to save a life. It is not us doing the saving. That is Jesus, but God can use us as a watchman to save a life.

My prayer is that we would be vigilant watchman. Two positives come from being a good watchman—A life can be saved, and our hands will be cleaned. What more can we do to save a life?
