Ezekiel 37:11, “Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts.”
This post is somewhat directed toward those affected by the fires out here in California though I believe it’s truth can be applied to everyone in other aspects of our lives as well. It seems many times that our hope is lost. The fire won’t stop. We will lose our house. We will lose our possessions. However, through all of these material loses, we still do have a hope. This hope is Jesus. I Timothy 1:1 states, “Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;”
Hope is a confidence in regard to a good and beneficial future. On Earth it may seem that our hope is lost, but when having our hope in Jesus, our Hope is never lost. We do have something to look forward to and that is Jesus coming back to take us from this work to be with Him forever. We can’t put too much weight on our earthly possessions. Matthew 6:19-20 states, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:”
Do not think I am taking the situation lightly because I am not. I pray everyday that the Lord would send some rain to help with the fires and that the Lord would protect the fire fighters along with those who are affected by it. However, God is in control. God knows what He is doing, and I believe that we can confidently place our hope in him. Psalm 118:8-9 read, “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.”
If there’s someone you know that is affected by the fire or maybe they just need some hope and you think this truth from God’s Word would help them, please don’t hesitate to share it with them.
