Daniel 1:8, “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.”
This is a very common verse, but it is common for a reason. This a very powerful verse. Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself. Despite the huge opposition that Daniel faced, he still determined that he would not defile himself. This decision could have meant death, but Daniel did not care. He determined that he would not defile himself.
I truly believe that the reason that Daniel was able to take such a stand was that he did not have to make a decision in that moment. What I mean is that I believe Daniel had already made the decision before hand that no matter what happens, he would not defile himself. I’ve heard men of God say, “Make the decision before you have to make the decision.” Even as Christians, our flesh is weak. If we wait until the opportunity presents itself to make a decision not to defile ourselves, we may fail. However, if we make the decision before, it will be much easier to resist the temptation. Christian, determine today that you will not defile yourself no matter what may come your way.
