Matthew 5:14-16, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Jesus, speaking to His disciples, said that they are to be the light of the world. As Christians, we are to be light in this dark world. We are to show the light of Jesus to those that need it. When people light candles, they do not hide the light of the candle. They place it in an area where the light can fill the surrounding area with light. It allows those around the light to see.
We are not to be ashamed of the light of the Gospel. We have a light that people need, and we need to shine it. This will bring honor and glory to God. At some point in our lives, we were the ones walking and darkness, but someone cared enough to share the light with us. It is not up to us to be a light in this world for Christ each and every day that we live. Ephesians 5:8 says, “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light.”
