Thou Shalt Love the Lord

Matthew 22:35-37, “Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question , tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”

Jesus said that this is the greatest commandment. Some may ask what makes this commandment greater than all the other ones? The answer to that question is quite simple. If one can follow this commandment, all the others will fall into place.

I love using the parent-child illustration to illustrate this. If a child truly loves their parents, the child will want to obey and follow all the desires of their parents. They would want to please their parents. As a child of God, if we love God with all of our heart, then we will do what we can to follow God and His commandments. Jesus said in John 14:15, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” Let us do our best to love the Lord our God today, for if we do, everything else will fall right into place.
