God Forbid

Romans 6:1-2, “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?”

As of recent, I have really grown to love these two verses and the thought associated with them. Too many people have the mindset that because they are saved, they are covered by grace, and being under grace, they can do whatever they want and still be going to Heaven. Though that is true, the mindset behind it is entirely wrong. Yes, we are under grace, but we should not continue to live in sin. Grace is not a savings account that we can dig into allowing us to do wrong. Grace is there as a cushion for us for the times when we do mess up.

Paul wrote about this in to the Christians at Rome, and said should we continue in sin so that grace may abound? Should we continue in sin so that grace can serve it’s purpose? God forbid. God forbid that we should sin just because we can. We need to strive for righteousness. We will never be perfect, but we can certainly try. Let us strive for righteousness. Let us not take advantage of the wonderful grace of God, for God forbids us to continue in sin.
