Philippians 3:14, “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
This is a very popular verse written to the church at Philippi. Philippians is an incredible book believed to be written by Paul while he was in jail. Paul was still focused on what he needed to do. This verse was the theme of our college during my senior year. It’s commonly used to urge people not to quit!
The word “press” comes from the Greek work “dioko” meaning “to strive for a purpose.” Everything that we do in life is done for a purpose. So many people go through life without having a purpose behind what they do. Our purpose above all else should be to do God’s will and bring Him honor. I Corinthians 10:31 says, “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”
May all our actions be done with the purpose of bringing God the glory. Let us live each day striving towards a goal. It is not always easy to reach our goals. It take effort. It’s been said, “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.” What is your mark? I hope everyone’s mark is to do God’s will for their life. Let us do our best to live a disciplined life while pressing toward the mark.
