The Love of Money

I Timothy 6:10, “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

The root of all evil, according to God’s Word, is the love of money. Too many times, Christians leave the will of God in pursuit of money. It does not seem like a big deal at first to miss church here and there for work, but it doesn’t take long and they aren’t in church at all.

Don’t get me wrong though. Work and money is a wonderful thing. They Bible says that if we don’t work, we shouldn’t eat. Money itself is not wrong. It’s when we love money more that we love God that we start to see problems. There isn’t a reason to chase after more money than we know what to do with. I Timothy 6:7 says, “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.”

When we love God more than we love money, God will take care of the money side of life. Think of Solomon. He had the chance to ask for riches, but he asked for God’s wisdom. When he did that, God gave him the riches. Let’s never be so concerned about money, but let us be concerned about loving God how we ought to. God will take care of the rest.
