Leviticus 26:1, “Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the Lord your God.”
I found the book of Leviticus very interesting as I read through this time. There is so much about holiness throughout the book. One thing that will help us live a holy life is to put God first. We should not have idols in our life. What is an idol? When we think of idols, we often think of statues that we bow down to, but idols are much more than that. An idol is anything that takes the place of God.
Money can be an idol. If we work to earn money instead of going to church, money is our idol. Cell phones and social media can be an idol. I wonder how many people that say they don’t have time to walk with God in the morning have time to check their social media. It’s become an idol. For some, their families become their idol. Our families are definitely important, but they should not come before God. Many idols today are not bad in and of themselves, but they are wrong if they are not in their proper place. How are we doing with our idols today? How are we doing with our priorities? Are they in their proper place? Does God have first place in our life? If not, fix it. Be sure that you do not have any idols in your life.
