I Cannot Go Beyond the Word of the Lord

Numbers 22:18, “And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the Lord my God, to do less or more.

I love the statement Balaam gives in this verse. Balak wanted Balaam to come to him and bless his people, but God told him no. Balaam said that even if Balak gave him riches it wouldn’t be enough because he could not disobey what God had told him to do.

Unfortunately, Balaam didn’t listen to his own advice. Instead, he asked God again after God told him no. God had to teach him a lesson.

When God tells us something, how do we react? Do we listen and obey His answer or do we ask until we hear what we want to hear. When God says something, we ought to obey Him to first time. God doesn’t change His mind on what He wants us to do. Let us focus on doing exactly what God tells us to do when He tells us to do it.
