Take Heed

Deuteronomy 12:30, “Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.”

This passage is all instruction to the Israelites. It is a list of instruction and direction that they were to follow in their life to live a life that would be pleasing to the Lord. The phrase “Take heed” is used multiple times throughout this chapter. To take heed is to keep or guard. They were to guard their hearts and keep the commandments that they were given.

As Christians, we ought to take heed to the instructions that we are given as well. We have many things that we ought follow through God’s Word. Hebrews 2:1 says, “Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.” Don’t think you are alright. Failing to heed the commandments of the Lord can cause even the mighty to fall. I Corinthians 12:10 says, “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.” Let us do our best to heed the commandments of the Lord, so that we may live a life that is pleasing to Him.
