Judges 21:25, “In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.”
This is a phrase that is constantly repeated throughout the book of Judges. With no direction in their lives, the Israelites were prone to do right in their own eyes versus what is right in God’s eyes. When their was a judge ruling over them, they did right in the sight of the Lord. When there wasn’t a judge, they went back to doing wrong.
Isn’t that how it is in our lives sometimes? When we have someone guiding us, we do right, but we slip when we are on our own. The verse said that there was no king. However, in our lives, we have a King. The King of Kings that watches over us and is right there to guide us. We have the written Word of God that is so easily accessible. We have no excuse to do wrong. Too many times, we get caught up in the moment and do something that is right in our eyes, but not right in God’s. Let us focus today on doing only those things that are right in the eyes of the Lord.
