1 Kings 5:12, “And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.”
This portion of Scripture talks about Solomon and his time as king. The Bible states that the Lord gave Solomon wisdom AS HE PROMISED HIM. This comes right after God appeared to Solomon in a dream, and told Solomon he would give him whatever he wanted. Out of all the things, he could have chosen, he asked for wisdom to lead God’s people. This verse says that God gave Solomon wisdom just as he promised.
God promises us wisdom as well, but we have to be humble enough to realize we need it and ask for it. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” The verse starts by saying, “If any of you lack wisdom.” That would be all of us. We just have to be honest enough to admit it. God promises us that He will give us wisdom as well if we ask for it.
Whether or not we want to admit it, we need wisdom each and every day of our lives. We need wisdom to make decisions. We need wisdom to know how to treat people. We need wisdom, and God wants to give it to us. The question today is: are we humble enough to realize we need wisdom from God or are we too prideful to acknowledge it? Secondly, are we humble enough to ask for it? Beware of pride as Proverbs 16:18 warns us, “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” Ask God for wisdom today. He wants to give it to you.
