The King…Made A Covenant Before The Lord

2 Kings 23:3, “[3] And the king stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord, and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant.”

This passage of scripture talks about King Josiah and the covenant that he made with the Lord. This covenant has three parts.

1. To walk after the Lord

2. To keep his commandments, testimonies, and statutes

3. To perform the words written in this book.

What a great covenant this was, and it is definitely applicable today. Imagine if everyone that calls themselves a Christian made this covenant between them and God as well. Just think about the positive impact we could have on our world.

My challenge today is to make the same covenant that Josiah made. Let us purpose to walk after the Lord. Let us walk with the Lord each and every day of our life. Secondly, we ought to keep all of God’s commandments. This should be an easy one If we truly love the Lord. Jesus even said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” Lastly, let us perform all the words written in the book. If the Bible says to do something, let’s do it. If the Bible says not to do something, let’s not do it. Josiah made a great covenant that day, and it still is applies to us today. I challenge everyone, myself included, to make the same covenant with God today. Josiah made it. Will we?
