1 Chronicles 4:9-10, “[9] And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. [10] And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.”
This passages of Scripture talks about a man named Jabez. These 2 verses are the only verses in the Bible that talk about this man. In the midst of a chapter of people’s name, God saw it important enough to include this.
His name was Jabez because the Bible says that his mother “bare him in sorrow.” His name had a negative connotation, but that didn’t stop him from trying to get ahold of God. The Bible says that he called on God and asked God to bless him and to be with him and the verse said, “God granted him that which he requested.”
May this be our prayer today! When was the last time we asked God to bless us? I’m not talking about selfishly and asking God for our wants, but sincerely asking God to bless us. When was the last time we asked God to be with us or are we too prideful and busy to admit we need God? Let us focus today on realizing that we need the blessings and the presence of God in our lives and ask God for it.
