Hath He Not Given You Rest?

1 Chronicles 22:18-19, “[18] Is not the Lord your God with you? and hath he not given you rest on every side? for he hath given the inhabitants of the land into mine hand; and the land is subdued before the Lord, and before his people. [19] Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the Lord God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the Lord.”

In this passage of scripture, David is instructing Solomon and his men regarding building the temple. David asks them more of a rhetorical question when he asked, “Is not the Lord your God with you? And hath he not given you rest on every side?” The thought that stuck out to me today was the second question. Hath he (God) not given you rest?

Life can get so busy sometimes. Hard things can come in our life that we find very hard to bear. How many times do we try to work things out our own way instead of trusting in God to take care of them? We stress about the things of this life instead of trusting in the One that already knows how things will turn out. It seems we often forget the verse Matthew 11:28 when Jesus states, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

The question today is, “Where do we find our rest?” Is our rest in ourselves? Do we try and take things into our own matters? Is our rest in the things of this world or do we find our rest in the Lord? Psalm 37:7 says, “Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently.” Let us focus today on finding our rest in the Lord and trusting in Him to take care of things.
