Nehemiah 4:4-6, “[4] Hear, O our God; for we are despised: and turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of captivity: [5] And cover not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from before thee: for they have provoked thee to anger before the builders. [6] So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work.”
This passage tells about Nehemiah and his people rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. He calls out to God for help because they were despised. There were people that would come just to mock and make fun of those that were building the wall.
Whenever we do anything for the Lord in life, someone will always despise us. Nehemiah had the right mindset. First, he called on God, and secondly, he continued to do what he knew was right. Verse 6 states, “So built we the wall…for the people had a mind to work.”
Remember that as we do things for the Lord, that we will be despised, mocked, and ridiculed. Do not be discouraged. If anything, it should be an encouragement knowing that you are doing what God wants. When the mocking comes, let us call on God to ask for His help to get through it and continue to do what is right. Nehemiah was able to do this. He overcome the fact that they were despised, and they accomplished the great work of building the wall.
