Blessed Be the Name of the Lord

Job 1:20-22, “[20] Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, [21] And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. [22] In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.”

Job is one of my favorite people in the Bible. He went from being one of the most wealthiest men in the entire world to being the most poor person in the entire world in a matter of minutes. Most people would have been so angry if this happened to them, but not Job. Job had the proper attitude. He said in the verse above, “The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” Through this entire trial, the Bible says that Job sinned not not charged God foolishly.

It seems that many times people want to blame God for the bad things that happen to them instead of realizing that God is the reason they even have anything. Job realized that everything that he had came from God, and God had the right to take it away. Job had the rind mindset during his trial.

How is our mindset during our trials? Everyone of us will go through them. Our mindset will determine how we go through them. We can get angry and have the hardest time or we can realize that regardless of our situation, God is always good to us. I firmly believe that Job was able to make it through his trial the way he did because he had the right mindset. We must realize that everything we have is because of God, and God has the right and power to take it from us. Through each and every day of our life, not just through trials, this should be our attitude. Our attitude should be that of “Blessed be the Name of the Lord.” Instead of getting angry with God about what has happened to you, how about we thank God today for all He has done for us. Let us purpose in our heart today to have this mindset.
