Psalm 1:6, “[6] For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.”
Psalm 1 is such a a great psalm (not that there are any bad ones). I love how straight forward this last verse is and specifically the last phrase as it says, “The way of the ungodly shall perish.” There are no ands, ifs, or buts about it. The end result of an ungodly life is that one will perish.
What exactly is an ungodly life? The easiest way to define it is, “Not godly or the opposite of God.” If we live a life that is contrary to God and completely opposite of His Word, the result is clear—we will perish. To perish is to, “suffer complete ruin or destruction.” The Bible tells us in James 1:15, “Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”
So many Christians today think they are the exception to the rule. They think that these verses don’t apply to them. The think they can live an ungodly life with perishing. That is not the case. The Bible does say that there is pleasure in sin for a season, but just like the seasons of the weather do not last forever, the season of sinful pleasure will one day come to an end as well.
The challenge today is a simple one, but it’s one that many people do not heed. The challenge is to simply live a godly life. If we don’t live a godly life, that means we are living an ungodly life. If we are living an ungodly life, we will perish. That’s what God says. Let us strive to live a godly life and be the best Christians that we can be.
