Psalm 139:23-24, “[23] Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: [24] And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
These are 2 very popular verses in the Bible, and it is very important that we apply these to our lives. David wanted to be sure that there was nothing that stood between him and the Lord. Instead of just examining himself (which we ought to do), David also asked God to search him.
David wanted to know if there was any wickedness inside of him. May times we can be blinded to our own faults, and it is good to get an outside perspective. There is not a better outside perspective than God’s perspective. God knows more about us than we know about ourselves. That is why we ought to ask the Lord to search us every single day.
If we want to live a successful Christian life, we ought to ask God to search us. We must make sure we are right with the Lord and we are not holding on to any sin because Psalm 66:18 says, “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.” Let us ask God today to search us inside-and-out as God not only sees our outside, but He also sees our heart. If God does not find anything, that’s great. However, if He does, let us not fight Him on it. Let us make it right so there is nothing between ourselves and the Lord.
As this post comes to a close, I wanted to share a song with you. There’s an old song titled, “Nothing Between.” Here are the words to the chorus which should be each and every one of our desires.
Nothing between my soul and the Savior,
So that His blessed face may be seen;
Nothing preventing the least of His favor,
Keep the way clear! Let nothing between.
