It is an Evil Thing…That Thou Hast Forsaken the Lord

Jeremiah 2:19, “Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord God of hosts.”

I want to focus on a portion of this verse. I want to focus on the part where it says, “It is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the Lord.” To forsake is to abandon. The Bible says that it is evil if we abandon God.

We know the Bible says that God will never leave us. However, we can leave Him. If we decide to turn away from God and try to live our own life, God will let us. However, the Bible says it is evil to forsake the Lord. I don’t think anyone would openly admit that they desire to be evil. However, if we forsake God, that’s what our actions say.

As Christians, we need to get back to God. More frustrating to me than seeing how wicked and corrupt this world is seeing Christians, who know what it right, turn away from God. God’s Word clearly states this is evil. Let us purpose today that we will not be an evil Christian. Let us promise God that we will never forsake Him and let us do our best to live for Him.
