Jeremiah 9:20, “Yet hear the word of the Lord, O ye women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters wailing, and every one her neighbour lamentation.”
The context of this verse is directed to the women of that day, but the truth is applicable for everyone. That portion of the verse I want to focus on is, “Hear the word of the Lord..and let your ear receive.” Oftentimes, I feel we can take hearing the Word of the Lord for granted. We hear it so often that we aren’t looking to receive something every time we hear it. Sometimes we feel that, “This message isn’t for me,” or “I’m glad so-and-so was here to hear this.” However, that should not be our mindset about the Word of the Lord.
We should always be focused on what is being said and receive it for ourselves. We should never become so comfortable with where we are that we do not look to hear and receive the Word of the Lord when it is spoken.
Let us determine today that when we hear the Word of God, we will receive it. Let us ask God before we hear it to soften our hearts and to speak to us. Being prepared to receive is a good step to take. Let us purpose to receive God’s Word, so we may be able to share it and teach others.
