If Thou Warn…Thou Hast Delivered Thy Soul

Ezekiel 3:18-19, “[18] When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. [19] Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.”

This is a great passage that is very applicable to soul winning. It talks about warning others. It says that when the wicked die without any warning from us, their blood is on our hands. However if we warn the wicked, whether or not they heed the warning, we are no longer responsible for them. The Bible says we have delivered ourselves.

This application is so true with soul winning. We have an opportunity to warn others about the punishment for their sin. If we neglect to warn them, their blood will be on our hands. If we do choose to warn them, their blood will not be on our hands.

I will say that this should not be our focus when we are soul winning. We should not just be concerned about ourselves and whether or not the “blood of others” for lack of a better term will be on our hands. We should be more concerned about where others will spend eternity. It’s either Heaven or Hell. There is no middle ground.

Let us focus strive today that our focus for soul winning will be twofold. First, that we may tell others how they don’t have to spend eternity in Hell. Secondly, that we may deliver ourselves. How sad it would be to see someone miss Heaven because we didn’t warn them.
