It Was Planted in a Good Soil by Great Waters

Ezekiel 17:8, “It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.”

This verse is talking about a tree, but the truth is applicable in our lives as well. It talks about a tree that was planted in good soil by great waters. Because of this, the tree prospered and brought forth great fruit.

The soil the tree was planted in can be compared to our hearts. Jesus’ parable of the sower and the seed demonstrates that. If we have a soft heart that is receptive to God’s Word it will allow God’s Word to prosper in our life. Having a soft heart will allow God’s Word to give us a solid foundation in our life as good soul gives a good foundation to a tree by allowing the roots to dig deep.

As good soil for a tree allows the roots to be filled with water, so a soft heart allows our lives to be filled with the Holy Spirit. There is a huge difference between being a Christian and being a Holy Spirit filled Christian.

If we want to have a successful Christian life, we not only need to have a soft heart to God’s Word, but we need to be filled with the Spirit. If we do these things, our Christian life will prosper and will bring forth fruit. Let us determine today to give our heart a good soil and be receptive to God’s Word. Then, let us do our best to be filled with the Holy Spirit each and every day, so our life can bring forth fruit
