The Philistines Have Dealt By Revenge

Ezekiel 25:15-17, “[15] Thus saith the Lord God ; Because the Philistines have dealt by revenge, and have taken vengeance with a despiteful heart, to destroy it for the old hatred; [16] Therefore thus saith the Lord God ; Behold, I will stretch out mine hand upon the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethims, and destroy the remnant of the sea coast. [17] And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them.”

The subject of today’s post has to do with how the Philistines acted—out of revenge. We don’t have to look very far today to see people who are acting out of revenge. They were wronged in some way, shape, or form, and they will do anything in their power to get revenge.

As Christians, this is not how we should act. We ought to trust the Lord when he said in Romans 12:19, “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”

Things will happen in life. People will wrong us. It is impossible to go through life and not be wronged by someone at some point in time unless you live in a cave by yourself. It will happen. Our part is how we handle it. Will we trust God or will we seek revenge? Either we can try and get the person back or we can trust that God will treat them justly. Let us trust God that He will do as He says, and let us not act out of revenge.
