John 21:15, “So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.”
This passage of Scripture is after the Resurrection of Christ. Some of the disciples were out fishing all night and caught nothing. Jesus told them to cast their net on the other side of the ship. They did and caught a lot of fish.
When they came to land, Jesus asked Peter the question in the above verse, “Lovest thou me more than these?” Jesus was talking about the fish because Peter had quit doing God’s work to go fishing.
This verse challenged me not to have “these” in my life. I do not want to have anything in my life that would cause God to question the love that I have for Him. I want my love for Him to be so obvious that He doesn’t even have to ask. Let us examine our lives today. Is there anything there that we are placing above our love and service for the Lord? If so, let us reprioritize our life to be sure our love for God is number one.
