He did That Which was Right
II Kings 22:1-2, “Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign…And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord.”
Josiah became king at just eight years old, and he did that which was right. This is so amazing to me. Josiah’s father who reigned before him was not a good king. II Kings 21:22 reads, “And he forsook the LORD God of his fathers, and walked not in the way of the LORD.” Josiah did not have a good example to look to as to how he should reign, but he still did that which was right.
We have no excuse to do right. Trying to say that you can’t do right because of your family, parents, etc. is not a good excuse. Josiah’s father was so wicked that his own servants killed him when Josiah was just a young child. However, Josiah still figured things out. II Kings 22:2 says, “And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.” Josiah learned from the past and acted according to that which was right. May we learn from the past and not make excuses. May we do that which is right in the sight of the Lord.
Happy 4th everyone!
