Sow to Yourselves Righteousness

Hosea 10:12-13, “Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.”

This verse is speaking about how the Israelites have been sowing wickedness and as a result, reaping wickedness. Hosea told them to break up their fallow ground. Fallow ground is the unplowed and unprepared soil. Hosea said it was time to get that soil (their heart) ready to sow some righteousness. They had sowed far too much wickedness, and they reaped the consequences. He challenged them to start sowing some righteousness.

Throughout our life, we are sowing something. Therefore, we will reap something. If we wish to reap righteousness, we must sow righteousness. Just as an apple seed will not bring oranges, sowing wickedness will not bring righteousness. Galatians 6:7 says it best, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Let us prepare our hearts to sow some righteousness today.
