Ezekiel 8:16, “And he brought me into the inner court of the Lord’s house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the Lord, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the Lord, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east.”
The thought today has to do with church. The temple in the Old Testament was a place where people would come and worship God and bring their sacrifices. Though it is not the same as the church, it is similar. In this passage, there were people in the temple who were worshiping things other than God. What they were doing had nothing to do with God whatsoever.
This reminds me of many churches today. So many people have what they want to call “church”, but it really has very little, if anything, to do with God. The people in the verse above were worshiping the sun. Many so-called “churches” today worship other things besides God. They will worship themselves, a man, etc. This is not why and how God designed the church.
I want our focus to be to keep the church a holy and a righteous place. It seems more and more good churches these days are changing to accommodate the desire of people when in reality churches should be changing people’s lives to be more like Christ. Let us determine to do our part to keep the church a holy and sacred place.
